Rayma Kempinsky Peterson


Rayma Kempinsky Peterson is a Canadian botanical artist and art teacher. Her specialty is painting plants in their native habitats. She has a BSc. in Botany and a BEd. in elementary education. She has shown her work all over Alberta and is represented in many private and public collections, including the Devonian Botanic Garden and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. Besides teaching art to all age groups, she gives Professional Development workshops to teachers, at their schools and at Teachers’ Conventions. Her work has been published in The Canadian Journal of Botany, Watercolor, Legacy, Artichoke, Wildflower, and Kinnikinnick magazines, as well as The George Pegg Historic Garden Handbook and Alberta Society of Artists, The First Seventy Years. She has illustrated interpretive signs for the George Pegg Historic Garden and the Devonian Botanic Garden. She has also written articles on teaching art for arts & activities and School Arts magazines. In 2002 she was commissioned to paint a watercolor of the 16native orchids of Wagner Natural Area for the Wagner Natural Area Society. Peterson is a member of the Alberta Society of Artists.

She has recently completed a Diploma in Elementary Education in Music. In Summer and Fall, 2004, she wrote and illustrated an Art course for high school seniors for Alberta Distance Learning. Peterson is represented in the ASBA teacher’s registry for botanical art.
