Self-taught oil painter for 40 years I've painted mostly landscapes, which also combined a desire to perfect photography. I can't recall a time I haven't had a passion for growing and capturing garden images. However it was in 2001 while watching a program on pressed flowers; I took a different approach to creating my art with an epiphany on preserving plants & flowers. Harvesting from our backyard woods I collect native and garden species and scan each on my home scanner.
Scanography, as it is sometimes called is digital imagery. A scanner gives us the ability to archive plants and flowers in a truly exquisite fashion. Showcasing brilliant color for each hybrid or a scene you might come upon in the garden or woods. It takes extreme patients and meticulous detail when scanning fresh flowers as it's necessary to create in-reverse for the benefit of the scanner, or heat from the glass can be unforgiving to delicate petals. However, the three dimensional images preserves so true to life I received the ultimate compliment this last summer at a garden show when a honey bee kept trying to land on one of my prints.
From the great outdoors to studio, my desire is to present this captivating process for Botanical Art Designs, which preserves flowers in their humble yet elegant Natural Art Form . I invite you to visit my on-line gallery where you may view my entire collection of Fine Art Prints.
