Doris Downes was raised in a family of artists. She is a native of Virginia and has always been an outdoor enthusiast. Her interest in flowers began at an early age while hiking in the woodlands near a family home in St. Mary's, Maryland. Coming across a pink Lady Slipper orchid in the wild piqued her interest in what would become her 'passion for orchids'. Her career began in New York City as an Art Director for various publications, painting when she could. Eventually, she dedicated her time to the fine arts, the primary subject matter being flowers. Her first solo exhibition appeared at the Sala Pares Gallery in Barcelona, Spain. She also produced a series of limited edition prints of her work with a gallery and publishing firm Circulo del Arte, also in Barcelona and worked with the renowned lithography studio of Vicenc Aznar to complete this series. Her work can be found in numerous private and public collections in the United States and abroad. She divides her time between New York City and Westchester, New York, with her husband and two sons. www.dorisdownes.com |
