Originally from Maine, Lili moved to New York City in 1985. After completing the certificate courses for interior design at Parsons School of Design in1990, she worked as a decorative painter, but also continued to paint in watercolors.

After moving to New Jersey in 1996, she began receiving instruction in botanical drawing at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, and it has become her main artistic interest. She has also studied printmaking, illustration, pastel portraits, and stained glass at the du Cret School of Art in Plainfield, New Jersey. She has completed the certificate program for botanical illustration at the New York Botanical Garden, NYC.
